Principles of Effective Communication

General communication

Engaging the Target audience

They change the presentation to suit the target audience. You wouldn’t use the same presentation on a group of OAPs as you would use on children. The grammar used and the tone of your voice would change when delivering a presentation because not only is the audience a different age but they have a different way of learning and understanding.

Terminology

When giving a presentation you have to make sure that the audience listening to the presentation actually understand what you are talking about. It is very important not to use technical terminology that people will be unable to understand. If the terminology is too advanced then the audience might not understand, or if it is too simple then they might feel that you are dumbing it down for them. For example: I would need to change the terminology of a presentation if I was giving a presentation to college students and primary school students.

Voice modulation

It is very important for the speaker to use voice modulation in a presentation so the audience don’t get bored and understand the key parts of the presentation. Using a loud tone will also make the audience aware that a key point or something important is being said within the presentation.

Engaging the audience

you have to keep your audience interested may that be in a power point or just a normal chat the keys to this is to ask them rhetorical questions and keep good eye contact. you could even use hand gestures to engage them in what you are saying and how you feel on a certain topic.

Question and answer

these sections of a presenataion are to let the audience ask or to find out more from the power point as they couldn't ask questions while you were presenting it. this lets the audience feel engaged in what you are saying and presenting to them because you are answering your question.

Accuracy

your presentation should be accurate and not far fetched the audience will gradually catch on that your presentation is not accurate. try to keep the facts and figures the same throughout the one subject because if you are on the same slide and say 3 different figures then they know you are lying.

Interpersonal communication

Body language. It is important to have good body language so when you are communicating with someone you don’t look angry or aggressive or they will not wont to talk to you for very long. Body language is a big part of human relations.

Body Language

Body language is a big part in showing your personality for example if you are smiling then you look happy and if your crying you look sad but there more sighs than that may it be someone biting there nails look nervous or someone with a smug face looks that there are up to something so always remember people read your body language before they talk to you

lip reading & Hand language

lip reading is used when someone who is deaf or with poor hearing ability's they will lip read top understand what you are saying. so when you are speaking make sure you talk slow and clear for the person to understand what you are saying.
Hand language is used when someone is completely deaf and cant lip read this is when you communicate with your hands. its a skill everyone should learn because there are lots and lots of people in the world that cant hear.

Written Communication

Written it is important to have written communication because if you need to write a letter or something then it will make your life very difficult. Also spelling is a big part of written communication not being able to spell will leave life very difficult.

smileys and emotions

smileys and emotions are used in text messages and emails to express how the person is feeling about the topic. there are not formal but in a informal manner express how the person feels very easily and efficiently people use them now because it is not only a popular craze its like in a formal document using full stops it has to be done so in a text message its usually how you end the message ort start a new subject.

Grammar and spelling

grammar and spelling in a document is very important for the person to understand what you are saying and what you are trying to express. Grammar in a sentence is very important because if it was for a cv or a letter to someone important then you don't what to silly or stupid. spelling is even more important because if it was a job you were going for and you spell something wrong in your cv then it looks like you don't even care and also would you hire someone that couldn't spell.
